Air gunners from around the country
gathered at Lea Valley for this extreme HFT event, which was originally
billed as a single round 40 shot competition, but had to be changed
to a two round 30 shot affair, such was the level or support. The
weather did its worst, leaving the shooters wallowing in puddles of
mud and trying to record their scores on sheets of paper pulp. But
this was always intended to be a fun event, with the raising of
funds for a worthwhile cause as the main focus.
As a result of contracting meningitis Ellie
became infected with meningicocaccal septicaemia and tragically had to
have both arms amputated just below the elbows and both legs above the
knees. All funds raised were for the Ellie May Fund to help fund
prosthetic limbs which will help Ellie to have a more normal life in
future. As she is so young, and growing so fast, these limbs will need
replacing every 18 months. Full details on http://www.elliemay.info/
In addition to funds raised by the
competition, other initiatives included a raffle, an auction,
shooting lessons by Terry Doe of Airgun World and competitive side shoots. A roll call of those who donated prizes would include:
| Daystate (Mk III FT) |
| John Bowkett/BSA (Scorpion) |
| Michael Adkins (restored
Webley Mk III) |
| Air Arms (S200) |
| Simmons (scope) |
| Logun/AGS (various scopes
& accessories) |
| Deben (scope) |
| Theoben (mounts & cleaning
kit) |
| JS Ramsbottom
(scope) |
| The Wells brothers (various
army surplus goods) |
| UKAHFT (season ticket) |
A total of £4,438 was raised on the
day and additional funds from the catering profits, individual
sponsorship and donations sent direct to the charity will bolster
this figure. We hope that this money goes some way to improving the
quality of life for this young lady.
