LVAGC PISTOL HUNTER RULES

These rules shall be in force at all rounds of the club's monthly Pistol Hunter competitions and any other events hosted by the club unless otherwise stated. If you are intending to take part in a shoot at Lea Valley, then you should familiarise yourself with these rules as they may differ from those used by other clubs and organisations.

The categories are:

.

Scoped

-

Any pistol fitted with a scope

Red-dot

-

Any pistol fitted with a red-dot sight

Open sights

-

Any pistol not fitted with an optical sight

.

Targets shall be of the “Nockover” type with 40mm kill zones. These have been modified to ensure that hits on the kill zone by lower powered pistols will registert. The targets will be placed at ranges between 10 and 25 yards. At least 50% of the kill zone will be visible from a legal shooting position.

Numbered metal pegs that will usually be hammered into the ground but may, on occasions, be attached to objects, will signify the shooting position. At the time the shot is fired, some part of the shooter or the gun must be in contact with the peg and the trigger finger must be behind the firing line. The only position that is not permitted is sitting. However, in addition to the ordinary understanding of the term “sitting”, it should also be construed to include kneeling with the buttocks resting on a foot that is folded sideways.

A legal kneeling shot therefore, requires the shooter to adopt a “three point stance” with the shin and ankle clear of the ground and the buttocks supported by the heel only. Additionally, the supporting hand and wrist must be forward of the knee and unsupported.

Five shots are taken at each of the targets, and the scoring system is 5 points for a knockdown, 2 point for hit on the faceplate and 0 for a complete miss. The shooter with the highest score shall be declared the winner.

Any pistol will be allowed so long as it has a power output of less than 6 fpe, as required by the law (you are reminded that all guns on the club’s ranges may be subject to random testing). The use of range finders, binoculars, wind indicators, or spirit levels is not permitted.

The maximum scope magnification allowed is 4x and no adjustments may be made to the scope after the first shot is fired. Shooters using red-dot sights are permitted to turn them off between lanes to preserve battery life. Bean bags are permitted to be used for kneeling shots only, but should be placed under the knee and must not be used to support the shin.

The clubs safety procedures, which are displayed on this site and at various points around the ground, must be adhered to at all times.
